The film is based on a bestselling memoir by English reporter Lynn Barber, who at age 16 dated and nearly married a Jewish white-col- lar crook in his 30s (played in the film by Peter Sarsgaard). The flick shows all the characters' flaws and highlights the anti-Semitism found just under the surface everywhere in British society in the early 1960s. Director Roland Emmerich's new big budget flick, 2012, also open- ing Nov. 13, has virtually all life on Earth threatened with extinc- tion by huge simultaneous natural disasters. The title references an ancient Mayan prediction of great disaster in the year 2012. John Cusack stars as a sci-fi writer who tries to escape, with his ex- wife (Amanda Peet, 37) and their children, to an "ark" refuge in the Himalayas. American Idol finalist Adam Amanda Peet Lambert, 27, sings the film's signature anthem, "Time for Miracles." .ta) great deal of Shakespeare." The actress, based in Boston where she won the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Actress, has appeared in a range of productions, including Follies, Coriolanus, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Clean House and Romeo and Juliet. "I was in The Sisters Rosensweig and The Last Night of Ballyhoo at the Jewish Theatre of On The Tube The History Channel's five-part WWII in HD, airing 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, Nov.15-19, is an interesting hybrid of feature film and documentary based on the memoirs of 12 real World War II veterans. Their stories are told through narration and actual World War II footage, much of it rarely seen color footage. One of the real veterans is Jack Werner, an Austrian Jew who fled Nazism, settled in the States and served in the U.S. Army. Werner's memories are mostly voiced by West Bloomfield-raised actor Justin Bartha (National Treasure, The Hangover), who worked with a voice coach to perfect his Austrian accent. Gina Gershon, 48, is the star of the Lifetime Movie Network mini- series Everything She Ever Wanted, airing 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov.14-15. Gershon plays an Gina Gershon Atlanta social climber who pushes her younger husband to spend way above his means. She then forces him to ask his parents for yet more cash. Victor Garber, 60, plays her father-in-law. Marla Sokoloff, 28, stars in the Hallmark Channel original film Flower Girl, premiering 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Marion Ross (Mrs. Cunningham on Happy Days) co-stars. PI New England, and I've played Golde twice in Fiddler on the Roo' Steinbach also has brought Jewish themes into plays she has writ- ten with friends, New Punims and Holidaze: A Christian, a Jew and a Ho-Ho-Homo, Too.
