Ameinu Focuses
On Health Care

R

eforming health care is
a hot topic in the United
States today, particu-
larly at a time when millions of
Americans can't afford health
care or have
been denied the
opportunity to be
covered or receive
benefits although
insured.
Southfield-
based Ameinu
Detroit (formerly
Dr. David
Labor
Zionist
Green
Alliance) and
Temple Emanu-El are presenting
three knowledgeable presenters
on the issue at their free commu-
nity forum "Health Care Reform:
What are the Facts?" from 7-9 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 19, at the temple,
14450 W. 10 Mile Road, Oak Park.
Speakers include:
• David Green, D.O., a practicing
neurologist in Farmington Hills
and chief of neurology at Huron
Valley-Sinai Hospital. President of
the Michigan Universal Health Care
Access Network (MichUHCAN),
Green is a member of Physicians
for a National Health Program and
has lectured on health care reform
for the last 15 years.
•Jack McHugh, Mackinac Center
for Public Policy's senior legislative
analyst and editor of MichiganVotes.
org. Since the site was launched in
2001, McHugh has written or edited
concise, plain-English descriptions
of every bill, vote and amendment
in the state House and Senate. Many
involved Medicaid and health care,
issues that McHugh has studied in
greater detail.
•Valerie Przywara, field organizer
for MichUHCAN. Przywara worked
25 years as a psychologist for Henry
Ford Health System. She also serves
on the executive boards of MOSES
and Gamaliel Michigan, both con-
gregation-based, social activist
groups concerned with community
organizing.
Following presentations by Green
and McHugh, Przywara will give
an update on bills currently before
Congress. The audience is encour-
aged to ask questions.
