DIA Fetes Benefactor
The Detroit Institute of Arts present
"To the Nines:' a gala fundraiser at
6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. In addi-
tion to elegant fashions, dining, and
dynamic entertainment, the evening
will include a tribute to A. Alfred
Taubman, a longtime museum
supporter for
whom the DIAs
European art wing
is named.
"Alfred's
leadership and
generous support
over the years is
evidence of his
A. Alfred
commitment to
Taubman
the museum he
so loves',' said Graham W.J. Beal, DIA
director. "His contributions of time,
talent and energy have been and
remain immeasurable, and we are
honored to pay tribute to him at this
very special event:'
Co-chairs for the gala are
Lorna Thomas of Detroit and Lila
Silverman of Bloomfield Hills.
The evening's black-and-white
decor takes inspiration from the
elegant, dynamic and sometimes
whimsical fashion photos in the exhi-
bition Avedon Fashion Photographs
1944-2000, which guests will be able
to view. Performers in costumes will
create a variety of dramatic vignettes
inspired by Avedon's photographs,
and models will roam the party,
striking poses in couture from the
1940s to 2000.
The evening includes a cocktail
reception, a seated dinner, dancing,
small bites and bar. Catering is by
Forte Belanger in Troy. Tickets begin
at $100. Call (313) 833-7967.
