Millions of people have followed
the medical advice of Dr. Mehmet
Oz after seeing him on the Oprah
Winfrey Show, the Discovery Health
Channel and, now, on his own talk
show, the Dr. Oz Show, which airs 3
p.m. weekdays on WDIV/Channel-4.
On Oct. 13, more than 700 people
flocked to Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in Southfield to hear from the
handsome celebrity doctor face-to-
face. Dr. Oz, a professor of cardiac
surgery at Columbia University in
New York, was the featured speaker
at the Sinai Guild's annual "Women
in Philanthropy" luncheon. "He was

warm, engaging and mesmerizing,"
said the Sinai Guild's executive direc-
tor, Sandra Jaffa of West Bloomfield.
"He spoke about women's heart
issues and undertaking a healthy life-
style." The Sinai Guild, which raises
funds for Detroit Medical Center,
is helping launch a first-of-its-kind
women's heart study. Money raised
at the luncheon will help purchase
an ultrasound machine to be used
in the nationwide research project.
"Women's cardiac symptoms are so
different from men's," said Jaffa. "This
study could really change women's
health." 14
