ALIYAH WORKSHOP
SHORT & LONG TERM ALIYAH PLANNING
Project Chessed Among
Innovative Nonprofits
Project Chessed has been named
one of the nation's 50 most innova-
tive Jewish nonprofits in Slingshot
'09/'10, a resource guidebook for
Jewish innovation.
Slingshot was created by a team
of young funders as a guide to help
funders of all ages diversify their
giving portfolios with the most
innovative and effective organi-
zations and programs in North
America.
This year, Project Chessed was
one of only ten organizations from
Slingshot '081'09 to receive a capac-
ity building grant from the Slingshot
Fund.
Project Chessed, a program
of the Jewish Family Service of
Metropolitan Detroit, provides
access to healthcare with coordi-
nation of services to uninsured,
low-income Jewish adults. These
services are provided through a
formalized network of donated care
offered by individual providers and
hospitals
Rachel Yoskowitz, director of
Project Chessed stated, "Inclusion
in Slingshot '09/'10 is a strong
validation for the work that Project
Chessed is doing to reach out
to those individuals whose lives
have been turned upside down by
the current economic downturn.
Slingshot exposes us to a vibrant
funding community, a valuable vehi-
cle as we work to grow our capacity
and take our programming to the
next level. We are most appreciative
of their recognition and support."
Since implementation five years
ago, Project Chessed has provided
access to care for close to 2,000
individuals and leveraged over
$12 million in donated services.
These services are made possible
through the charitable contribu-
tions in care of the individual and
institutional partners. Institutions
include William Beaumont
Hospitals; Botsford Hospital; Detroit
Medical Center; Henry Ford Health
System; Karmanos Cancer Institute;
Millennium Diagnostic Center; St.
John Providence Hospital; St. John
Macomb Hospital; St. Joseph Mercy
Oakland; Straith Hospital.
This innovative program is
guided by the Jewish Family
Service Project Chessed Advisory
Council chaired by Karen Sosnick
Schoenberg.
