Miriam and her late husband, Dovid, were Israeli pioneers. It was illegal to enter Israel when she and Dovid made aliyah from Detroit in 1947. They bought tickets to vacation in Greece and jumped ship in Haifa harbor with son Danny with only the shirts on their backs and Danny's baby bottle. They helped build the kibbutz from absolutely nothing. Miriam was a secretary for the British before the State of Israel was created in 1948 and smuggled maps and important papers to the Haganah. The daughter of the late Louis and Eva Levine, Miriam is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rachaeli and Udi Anafi, Talia and Uri Shooval; sons and daughters-in-law, Doniel and Tzila, Elisha and Roni, Yizhar and Judy; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Cecelia (the late Ben) Pivoz, Freda (the late Leon) Weberman, Phyllis (Nathan) Stone; brothers, Michael (Shelia) Levine, Barry (Patricia) Levine; many lov- ing nephews and nieces. Interment at Kibbutz Ein Dor cemetery. SEYMOUR HAROLD NEUMAN, for- merly of Farmington Hills, died Oct. 11, 2009, in South Florida.
