Stryk c. 1964 MANFRED STRYK, of West Bloomfield, died Oct. 6, 2009. Born in Essen, Germany, he was the devoted son of the late Minna and the late Abram Stryk. The fam- ily fled Germany in the late 1930s and spent the next three years in Israel before immigrating to the United States. At the age of 9, he spoke three languages: German, Hebrew and English. He was intelligent, knowledgeable and enjoyed both music and the arts. A graduate of Wayne State University in civil engineering, Mr. Stryk was a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineering, where he was recently invited to apply for Fellow grade. Among his professional honors is a certificate of proficiency in fallout shelter design and analysis from the University of Illinois. Before retiring, Mr. Stryk spent the last 31 years of his career as a partner and senior vice president of Harley Ellington Pierce Yee, which was responsible for the design of notable structures such as the Chrysler Technology Center, U-M Hospital, U-M Chemistry Building, Crittenton Hospital, Stroh's Brewery, various structures at Arlington National Cemetery and many automotive plants throughout the country. Mr. Stryk was the devoted husband of Barbara Stryk; loving father of Dr. Steven and Polina Stryk, David and Karen Stryk; cherished grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Daniel and Hannah Stryk; many friends and other relatives.
