A

silver medal goes to the sec-
ond-place athlete in an event.
But there's nothing second-
rate about the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation, which is celebrating its 25th
anniversary this year.
Five new members will enter the foun-
datioris Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame at the 25th annual induction din-
ner 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit in West Bl000mfield.
The Hall of Fame class of 2009
includes Steve Greenberg, Kathryn
Krickstein-Pressel, Dr. Stuart
Kirschenbaum, Richard Loewenstein
and Dr. Steven Rosen.
This will be the first time the dinner
will be held at the JCC, the actual site of
the Hall of Fame. "The JCC was the obvi-
ous choice for our 25th annual dinner,"
said David Blatt, executive director of
the not-for-profit, philanthropic MJSF,
which founded and sponsors the Hall of
Fame.
"I'll bet a lot of people coming to the
dinner have never seen the Hall of Fame
and this will be a great opportunity to
do that:" Blatt added. "Will we hold the
dinner at the JCC again? It obviously is
a good fit, but we'll make that decision
year to year:'
The evening will begin at the Hall of
Fame, where students from the Frankel
Jewish Academy will act as tour guides.
In addition to the induction ceremo-
nies, the dinner in Handleman Hall will
feature kosher food and a silent auction.
Past Hall of Fame inductees will be
recognized and a video retrospective
of the MJSF and Hall of Fame will be
presented.
Posthumous awards will be presented

to the families of the late Jim Grossman
and Elayne Wolfson, who served the
MJSF and Hall of Fame in many capaci-
ties.
The first Hall of Fame class in 1985
included former Detroit Tigers great
Hank Greenberg, former Detroit
Pistons owner William Davidson and
ex-University of Michigan quarter-
backs Benny Friedman and Harry
Newman.
Two of the 2009 inductees have ties to
previous inductees.
Steve Greenberg, the son of Hank
Greenberg, has played major roles in
numerous sports media ventures. He
was a co-founder of Classic Sports
Network, now known as ESPN Classic,
a network that's seen in more than 70
million cable and satellite homes in the
U.S. Greenberg served as deputy com-
missioner and chief operating officer of
Major League Baseball from 1990-93.
Krickstein-Pressel, a former tennis
player, coach and administrator, is the
sister of tennis pro Aaron Krickstein, also
a member of the Hall of Fame. She died
of breast cancer. Her daughter, golfer
Morgan Pressel, who plays on the LPGA
Tour, has raised more than $1 million for
breast cancer research through benefit
golf tournaments and shirt sales.
Dr. Kirschenbaum was Michigan's
boxing commissioner from 1981-92.
During that time, he was instrumental in
the establishment of federal regulations
for boxing. In 1993, Sports Illustrated and
the Detroit Institute of Arts presented
Kirschenbaum the Joe Louis Award for
his humanitarian efforts. He serves on
the MJSF board of governors and is a
former MJSF president.
Loewenstein was a standout multi-
sport athlete at Bloomfield Hills
