She was born in Lebeshay, Russia, on Dec. 25, 1912, and came to the United States in 1919, settling in Detroit where her father had been lured by $5 per day salary at the Ford Motor Company. Perlman, her beloved husband of 61 years who died in 1997. Her young married life was spent in Michigan, where her three children were born. While liv- Perlman ing in Ann Arbor, she was the president of Hadassah and very involved in the creation of the cookbook Like Mama Used To Make. In 1952 the family moved to Tucson, where she helped establish the Tucson Jewish Community Center and was a partner in her husband's real estate ventures. A lifelong student, she entered college at age 50, a year behind her youngest daugh- ter. Her life centered around her family: Her home was a place where ideas were discussed and virtues practiced. It was a place warmed by her love, a place where friends and family found respect, love and encouragement. She held a special place for nieces and nephews, who fondly referred to her as Saint Ruth. Mrs. Perlman is survived by three brothers, Abe, George and Jerry; children, Julie, David and Nancy; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial Park.
