nization that provides emergency
shelter, transitional and perma-
nent housing and comprehensive
support services for Detroit's
homeless population, announced
the appointment of Michael J.
Friedman to the board of direc-
tors. Friedman is a partner at the
Detroit office of Honigman Miller
Schwartz and Cohen LLP.

Bess Wayburn of Rehovot, Israel,
daughter of Ronald and Laura
Wayburn, obtained her Ph.D. in
cell molecular biology from the
Weizmann Institute of Science in
Rehovot. She will go on an expedi-
tion as a volunteer for 10 weeks on
a big game reserve in South Africa.

Alec Hirsh Cohen of West
Bloomfield has been named a win-
ner of one of the 31 Engineering
Scholarships at the University of
Michigan in Ann Arbor for the
school year 2009-2010.

first prize at the
Michigan State
Fair in Detroit
in the fine arts
competition in
the professional category. His metal
sculpture Abraham and Isaac was
