Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel. WILLIAM "BILL" STEINBERGER, 86, of Traverse City, died Sept. 26, 2009, at Munson Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in the Delray neighborhood of Detroit to Gustav and Katherine (Adler) Steinberger. He was a graduate of Detroit Central High School and Wayne State University. He married Fay Berman on May 21,1945. Together they had four daughters. Mr. Steinberger served in World War II as a radio operator in the Navy. He was an accountant for the city of Detroit for more than 40 years. He and his wife were members of Congregation Beth El in Traverse City. He was involved in B'nai B'rith, the American Youth Hostel, and the Kiwanis Golden K Club of Traverse City. He volunteered in the business office of Munson Hospital for many years. Mr. Steinberger loved sailing and was a longtime sailing instructor at Kent Lake. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He took great pride in his children, grandchil- dren and great-grandchildren and the activities and pursuits in which they were involved. Extended family was also important to him. He had a gift for remembering all birthdays and anniver- saries. His kindness and quiet, gentle nature will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Steinberger is survived by his wife, Fay; daughters, Susan (0. William, M.D.) Brown, Carol (Keith) Adler, Eileen (Donald Ross, M.D.) Steinberger, M.D., Laura (Bob) Otwell; grandchildren, Rachel (Steven Meltser) Brown, David Brown, John Ross, Emma Ross, Claire Otwell, Annie Otwell, Julia Otwell; great- grandchildren, Hannah and Avi Meltser; many beloved nieces and nephews.
