T
his is incredible; I have never
won a raffle, lottery or bingo
in my life," said Matthew
Rossetti of Bloomfield Hills, grand
prize winner of the SuperRaffle pre-
sented by four local agencies serving
people with developmental disabilities
— JVS, JARC, the Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan Detroit (JCC)
and Friendship Circle. The groups
partnered to offer a SuperRaffle with
four super prize packages.
Winning tickets were drawn by Josh
Chudnow of West Bloomfield, a par-
ticipant in the JCC Teens All Together
program at the start of the Friendship
Circle's Walk for Friendship on Sept.
13 at the JCC. The SuperRaffle raised
$28,866, which will be divided among
the four agencies.
Rossetti chose the Super Sports and
Entertainment package. Barbara and
Lon Grossman of Bloomfield Hills,
second-place winners, chose the Super
Vancouver trip package; and Barbara
Berent-Rubinstein of West Bloomfield,
third-place winner, chose the Super
New York City prize. The fourth prize,
the Super Doin the D Cultural pack-
age, went to Barbara Narens of West
Bloomfield.
"This is a great way to help orga-
nizations that need it in these trying
times:' said Lon Grossman. "We are
astonished, delighted and ecstatic. We
have never won anything before."
Narens said she has never won any-
thing either.
Berent-Rubinstein said, "I couldn't
believe it that I won. I won a case
of wine at the JVS Strictly Business
Luncheon in June, and now this. I'll
buy anything JVS is selling in the
future'
Barbara Nurenberg, president and
CEO of Southfield-based JVS, said,

"Really the entire community won,
and the biggest winners of all are the
people with disabilities served by JVS,
Friendship Circle, JCC and JARC."
"It was a great idea': said Rabbi
Levi Shemtov of the Friendship Circle
in West Bloomfield. "I hope all the
winners really enjoy their prizes, and
come back and help us get started for
next year's raffle'
Rick Loewenstein, executive direc-
tor of Farmington Hills-based JARC,
said, "This collaboration has certainly
opened my eyes to the great work of
Friendship Circle, JCC and JVS and,
of course, JARC. I've gained a greater
understanding of our respective roles
in the community and, most impor-
tantly, to the people we serve. I look
forward to more great things together
in the future. The high level of trust
and collegiality among our organiza-
tions as the result of this collaboration
is exemplary"
"This was an outstanding program':
said JCC Executive Director Mark A. Lit,
"and we had a great time working with
the other agencies. We were profoundly
impressed by the generosity of our
community in supporting this event,
from which so many will benefit."
JVS provides a full spectrum of
training, counseling, work opportuni-
ties and support services for people
with disabilities; JARC primarily pro-
vides community-based residential
services in group homes and various
supported living arrangements; the
JCC provides an inclusion program
for children with special needs in the
Center's child development center
and day camp programs as well as an
evening social group for special needs
teens; the Friendship Circle provides
assistance and support to the families
of children with special needs. Fl
Dorie Schwedel is vice president, market-
ing and communications, of JVS.
