(1111) n Monday, Oct 5, Yad Ezra,
Michigan's kosher food pan-
try will hold its 19th annual
fundraiser at Adat Shalom Synagogue
in Farmington Hills. This year's event,
a strolling supper, pays tribute to Ron
Charfoos, a longtime Yad Ezra supporter
who is committed to helping those who
are vulnerable in our community.
Bluma and Robert Schechter and
Esther and Neal E Zalenko are co-chair-
ing the event.
Charfoos has volunteered his time
and talent with the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit, Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Fresh Air/Tamarack and Yad
Ezra. He and his family were responsible
for making the first endowment dona-
tion to Yad Ezra's "Chicken in Every
Pot" program to ensure that vulnerable
families receive chickens in their grocery
packages. He has provided generously
towards capital improvements that
directly benefit the clients and volun-

teers in Yad Ezra's building.
Dinner and program journal revenue,
which accounts for a major portion of
Yad Ezra's annual budget, is used to
purchase nutritious groceries for the
organization's client families. Yad Ezra
currently provides kosher food, health
care items and household cleaning sup-
plies to approximately 3,800 individuals
every month. Since the end of 2007, Yad
Ezra's client base has increased by 35
percent.
Yad Ezra, an independent agency, is
supported by the generosity of the Metro
Detroit community. This year, a dedi-
cated corps of volunteers and financial
supporters will enable the food pantry to
distribute more than 800,000 pounds of
free groceries to impoverished families.
For more information about the
dinner or Yad Ezra, call the Berkley
office at (248) 548-3663, check the
website www.yadezra.org or email
