Boys Basketball
Two nail-biting losses to eventual
bronze medal winner Palisades (N.J.)
prevented the Detroit U14 boys bas-
ketball team from winning a medal.
In the first loss, a one-pointer in
the preliminary round, Evan Ketai's
last-second shot appeared headed for
the basket when it struck a hanging
light in the old-style gym.
Detroit won three games, beat-
ing Rockford (Ill.), Delaware and
Springfield (Mass.)
Dylan Deitch, Ben Greened,
Andrew Forbes, Brett Schwartz, Brad
Sloan, Zach Smoler, Ivan Spizizan and
Eric Weiss also were on the Detroit
roster. Steve Weiss was the coach.

Girls Soccer
Becca Feder, Sarah Hoberman, Stacy
Indianer, Rachel Lubin, Alissa Neff,
Emily Rozin and Ashley Silbert were
joined by four athletes from Denver,
San Diego and San Mateo, Calif., on
the Detroit U16 girls soccer team.
The team was coached by Franci and
Larry Silver.
Detroit won just one game, but it
gave eventual silver medal winner
Boca Raton (Fla.) a run for its money
in the playoffs.

Girls Basketball
The mostly 14-year-old Detroit
team did its best against older
teams, which pleased Coach Adam
Bornstein.
"We look at this year's Maccabi
Games as a building block for the
future,' he said.
