a cast member of various radio
series, including "The Lone Ranger"
on WXYZ-AM.
Winer has three children and
four grandchildren.
Winer sees access to theater as a
means to lifting people from "out of
their ordinary lives and give them a
vision of what they can do."
"That is why I have fought to
keep JET alive — because it fills
that role in our Jewish community:'
Winer said.
JET is trying to recover from a
terrible year financially. Compared
to the previous year, income was
down 37 percent. JET had always
prided itself on its earned revenue
in years past (66 percent of the
budget). The budget for the current
fiscal year is roughly the same as it
was 10 years ago.
Winer's dream is for a building
where JET "would be able to build
sets, with elevators to bring them
up from below, to have rehearsal
space, a children's theater work-
shop, a dance studio — my dream
is for a performing arts center that
we can all take pride in." PI
