"Among the precepts in Judaism is culture,' she said. "For me, it is important to have as part of the Jewish Community Center a cultural concept like theater where laughter, tears, joy and a different vision than that of our ordinary lives helps us in rounding out our existence. I have worked for that concept all my life' Even in her 90s, Winer is at the forefront of women who foster Metro Detroit's cultural and community life. She organized and trained teachers for the English as a Second Language program for the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit. "Even when, so many years ago, when I was teaching English as a Second Language, and I really knew nothing about how to go about teaching in this area and knew no Yiddish:' Winer said, "I knew about theater; through drama, I was able to teach English:' Winer also trained docents for the Zekelman Family Campus/Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills.
