son Bradley Scott to Tarah Cortney Mertz,
daughter of John and LouEllen Mertz of
Saginaw.
Bradley earned his bachelor's degree in
computer engineering from Michigan State
University in East Lansing. He is a computer
networks engineer with Juniper Networks.
Tarah earned her bachelor's degree in
early childhood development from MSU
and her cosmetology training from Douglas
J Salon in East Lansing. She is a stylist at
Bianchi Salon in Royal Oak.
A October wedding is planned at the Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester
Hills.

avid and Suzi Wiener of Oak
Park are thrilled to announce
the engagement of their daugh-
ter Michele Wiener to Dave Plafchan,
son of Rosemary and Larry Plafchan of
Farmington Hills.
Michele and Dave both received their
bachelor's degrees at Michigan State
University in East Lansing, where they met.
They reside in Venice, Calif., where
Michele is a first- and second-grade teacher
and art specialist in Topanga Canyon and
Dave is a copywriter-designer at Deutsch
Inc. in Marina Del Rey.
An April 2010 wedding in Malibu, Calif., is planned.

Matz 95th

eatrice S. Matz of Chicago, Ill.,
marked her 95th birthday at a
celebration at Sabbatino's Italian
Restaurant in Chicago, hosted by her daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Shari and Chuck
Handel of Chicago, Linda and Dr. Howard
Newman of Waterford. Celebrating their
grandma's big birthday were her grandchil-
dren, David Handel, Elyse and Pat Sweeney,
Jennifer and Dan Eppley, Nikki and Greg
Newman, Alexandra and David Newman.
Also present were 14 great-grandchildren as
well as many nieces and nephews and good
friends.
