n time for Rosh Hashanah, a
Torah scroll will be welcomed
by the Chabad House of Eastern
Michigan at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept,
13. The scroll has roughly 600,000
handwritten letters.
With a feather and
special mix of ink,
the scribe writes the
Five Books of Moses
on roughly 54 pieces
of parchment. The
average process
-Ad _
takes over a year to
Freida Polter
produce the beauti-
ful workmanship of a Torah scroll.
When a scroll is completed, it calls
for great celebration by the commu-
nity, welcoming it to its new home
— the Holy Ark in the synagogue.
This new scroll is dedicated to the

Flint Jewish community in loving
memory of Freida Bluma Polter and
will be completed at the Nartel Family
Chabad Community Center, a Jewish
outreach, educational and social ser-
vice organization. Participants in the
celebration will help scribe Rabbi Levi
Kagan of Oak Park complete the final
letters of this scroll.
Mrs. Polter was a pillar of strength
and hope to many. Her devotion to
Torah, mitzvot and deeds of kindness
have encouraged family and friends
of Chabad House of Eastern Michigan
to further her legacy by writing this
Torah.
All are welcome to join this event at
the Chabad House, 5385 Calkins Road
in Flint Township.
For information, call Chabad House,
(810) 230-0770.
