Last time I discussed the
particulars of the H1N1 swine
flu pandemic and offered some
general hygiene tips (e.g., hand
washing and germicides) about
how to protect against it.
This time I'd like to discuss other
lines of defense against swine
and other flus. For starters, you
should definitely consider get-
ting a flu shot. As of this writing,
a swine-flu-specific shot is not
expected to be available until
mid-October; however, re g u-
lar flu shots are available
now and are being widely
encouraged as a potential
defense against non-
\II swine, seasonal flu.

Here are some health
and immunity-bolster-
ing nutrition tips:
• Intake sufficient pro-
tein rich in B6 and B12
vitamins found in lean
meat, poultry, fish, and
legumes;
• Eat flavonoids (or bioflavonoids)
found in grapefruits, oranges,
lemons and limes;
• Consume glutathione, found in
cruciferous vegetables, and be-
lieved to have infection-fighting
