Place all the vegetables in a large
pot with about 1 inch of water in the
bottom. Bring to a boil, and cook for
5-7 minutes, or until broccoli is ten-
der but still crisp and green. Drain
well. Transfer to a medium bowl
While the broccoli is cooking, heat
the oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Mix in the brown sugar, soy sauce,
vinegar, pepper and garlic. Bring

Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a
9x13-inch baking dish well with
nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
Cook noodles according to package
instructions. Drain well, transfer to a
bowl and stir in the margarine. Cool
for 10 minutes.
Whisk the eggs and vanilla in a
bowl and stir into the noodles. Stir
in the sugar, cinnamon and salt. Stir
in the apples and corn and transfer
to the prepared baking dish. Bake
for 45-minutes to one hour until
the kugel is set and golden. Remove
from oven and cover immediately
with foil.
Cool completely and chill until
nearly ready to serve. Cut the kugel
into squares. Reheat, covered, at
250F for up to an hour. Makes 15-20
servings.

to a boil and cook for 1 minute.
Remove from heat, and immediately
pour over the vegetables. Toss well.
Arrange the vegetables in a serv-
ing dish and sprinkle with sesame
seeds. Serve immediately.

Wild Rice with Candied
Cashews, Raisins, Ginger

Cashews:

3 cups cashews
1 egg white
1/2 cup sugar
Rice:

1 1/2 cups uncooked wild rice
5 cups water or vegetable
broth

1/2 cup golden raisins

1/2 cup chopped candied or
glazed gingerroot, or more
to taste

1/2 cup minced fresh parsley

1/2 cup chopped scallions,
white and green parts
Salt and pepper to taste

Prepare cashews: Preheat oven to
325F. Spray a baking sheet well with
nonstick cooking spray. Toss cashew
ingredients together. Bake for 25-35
minutes until the nuts are browned
and bubbly. Remove from oven
and cool completely. Break up the
cashews with your hands. Store in a
zipper bag, removing as much air as
possible, for up to two weeks.
Make rice: Combine rice and
water in a large saucepan over medi-
um-high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce
heat to simmer and cook for 55-60
minutes or until the rice is tender
(drain if necessary). Add remaining
ingredients and toss well. Just before
serving, stir in about 1 1/2 cups of
cashews. Serve hot or at room tem-
perature. Makes 8 servings. El

Golf For Hillel Day School
The 14th annual Hillel Day School
Golf Classic will be held on Monday,
Sept. 14, at Franklin Hills Country
Club in Farmington Hills.
The nine-hole tournament will begin
at 8:45 a.m. with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun
start; lunch is included.
Registration and lunch for the 18-
hole event will begin at noon with a 1
p.m. shotgun start, followed by dinner.
The cost for the nine-hole event is
$180; the 18-hole tournament is $300.
Sponsorship opportunities are avail-
able. Proceeds benefit continuing excel-
lence in academic programming and
Hillel's financial assistance program.
