It was very disappointing to learn that neither Michigan senator, Carl Levin or Debbie Stabenow, were among the 71 U.S. senators endorsing this critical ini- tiative to: end the Arab League boycott against Israel; stop incitement to anti- Israel violence and hatred endemic in Arab culture; ease discriminatory travel and business restrictions; and most importantly, respect previous accords and stop terrorism. Senator Levin's and Senator Stabenow's refusal to sign on to this letter promoting Arab recognition and acceptance of Israel is all the more disturbing given their appearance alongside unabashed anti-Semite Rev. Jeremiah Wright at last year's NAACP dinner in Detroit as well as their will- ingness to appear at ceremonies at the Arab American Museum in Dearborn along with the secretary general and ambassador from the very same Arab League that seeks to isolate and eco- nomically strangle Israel and that has never recognized Israel. Sue Kahn Farmington Hills Levin's Logic? I was initially shocked to learn that both our U.S. senators, Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, were not among the 71 senators who signed a letter to President Obama urging him to press the Arab states to demonstrate their commitment to the peace process by normalizing relations with Israel ("Letter Of The Law," Aug. 20, page 19). On the other hand, maybe I should not have been shocked as in the case of Sen. Levin, who had sent out a form letter to many who had written to him in December on the Gaza war remark- ing to the effect that Israel had made the peace process more difficult by its actions of self-defense. One can now see a pattern to Sen. Levin's logic that if only Israel would give up it duty to defend its citizens, e‘' Free Observances (DON V1 IONS APPRECIATED) Meaningful cultural/secular approach Music, Singing & Readings Deborah Shuster, cellist, playing Kol Nidre and more Stefan Kukurugya, pianist At the Jewish Community Center 15110 West Ten Mile Road, Oak Park Rosh Hashanah - Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. Yom Kippur - Monday, September 28, 10 a.m. there would be peace. U.S. Rep Gary Peters, D-West Bloomfield, who just came back from Israel having visited Sderot, recognized that Israel needed to act as the rain of rockets on inno- cent families was unacceptable. Eugene Greenstein Farmington Hills Road To Genocide On his tour of Europe, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to run the gauntlet as leaders on the continent took whacks at him with sharp sticks. It's a shame that there is no balancing act in Europe. Has the European Union demanded that the Arabs recognize Israel as the Jewish state? Has the E.U. demanded that the Arabs call off their war of annihilation against Israel? Has the E.U. demanded an end to Arab terrorism, missile attacks and cross-border raids intent on killing and kidnapping Israelis? Has the E.U. demanded that the Arabs stop their 24/7 incitement to violence against the Jewish state? Has the E.U. demanded that the Arabs stop the indoctrination of their children with hatred for the Jews? The answer is a deafening no. The only thing the E.U. is demand- ing is the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Judea, Samaria and much of Jerusalem. Very little has changed since the Holocaust except that the Europeans no longer have to get their hands dirty. Now all they have to do is write checks to the Arabs and let them complete the genocide of the Jewish people. Douglas Miller Franklin Correction • In "Architect Means Business" (Aug. 27, page 24), it indicated that Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills was designed by architect Dennis King's current firm, Harley Ellis Devereaux Corp. Actually, the synagogue was designed by a different firm, King & Lewis Architects, with Dennis King and Larry Rockind on the design team. Rockind was chief engineer and says he was responsible for the project under the direction of Harry King (no relation to Dennis).
