American Ked Magen David For Israel
American Friends of Magen David Adorn
S upporting Jsrael's National r mergen 9 Medical Service

invites the communit to attend the

ing and stopping genocide around
the world. Consider Beth Tritter,
Jessica Lieberman, Kenneth
Jeruchim and Adam Szubin. In
their 20s, they began organizing
D.C. Minyan, which started in a
bookstore in Washington. It has
seen tremendous growth, with
a new generation of Jews lead-
ing the group and reinvigorating
Jewish life.
Consider Daniel Squadron. His
passion for public service led him
to run for New York State Senate
this year — and win. What's
important to him? He lists his
father's involvement in Jewish
affairs and his synagogue mem-
bership on his Web site.
Consider Carolyn Rubenstein
and Josh Sommer. Carolyn cre-
ated a pen-pal program to connect
sick children with their healthier
peers — and offer them scholar-
ships. Josh created the Chordoma
Foundation after being diagnosed
with the disease during his fresh-
man year at Duke. His organization
is actively involved in an interna-
tional effort to develop effective
treatments and, ultimately, a cure
for the disease.
Consider Jason Toff, Josh Stein
and Abby Kolker, creators of
a one-week camp for children
with Down syndrome. Adam Bly,
founder of Seed magazine and a
member of the executive commit-
tee of the American Committee
for Israel's Weizmann Institute of
Science. Aharon Horwitz and Ariel
Beery, founders of PresentTense, a
forum where their peers use inno-
vative means to connect with the
Jewish faith.
Opportunities abound for
positive change. Educating the
56 percent of school children
in Spain who said last sum-
mer they wouldn't share their
schoolwork with a Jewish child.
Remebering the legacy of Daniel
Pearl. Accelerating the Internet
movement to release Gilad Shalit.
Sharing Judaism as "intellectually
inquiring and academically ambi-
tious:' as an atheist remarked in a
United Kingdom paper this past
year, describing why she sends her
child to a Jewish day school.
The key lesson: Young people are
taking initiative and getting things
done, making Jewish ideas mat-
ter in a unique and vibrant way, to
write the next chapter of Jewish life
in America. Stay tuned. 1_1
