We think nothing of driving
half an hour to a good restaurant,
but we'll settle for a hospital
that's right around the corner.
A national
initiative to
develop young
Jewish leaders
is ending.
As long as your health insurance allows you to go
anywhere, maybe you shouldn't confine yourself to
the neighborhood.
Because this isn't dinner, this is your life.
Year after year, the people of Southeast Michigan have
rated Beaumont as their most preferred hospital. Most
preferred for surgery and for overall quality of care.

nonprofit organization
dedicated to fostering young
Jewish leaders is closing.
The five-year-old Professional Leaders
Project, which recruited and trained
future American Jewish leaders in
their 20s and 30s, will "phase out its
operations" at the end of August due
to the "economic climate,' according to
a news release from the organization.
PLP was founded in part by Detroiters.
Created in 2004, the PLP had as its
mission "turning leadership over to
the next generation." PLP is the first
high-end talent pool of outstanding
volunteer and professional young
leaders. The Professional Leaders
Project paired participants with
mentors in the Jewish community
for coaching and leadership training.
It also offered academic fellowships
and skill-building conferences.
Native Detroiter Rhoda M.
Weisman, founding executive direc-
tor, stated, "The Jewish community's
greatest resource is its human capital
and in the case of PLP, we have iden-
tified, trained and placed Gen Y tal-
ent in top leadership roles across the
country. The investment in PLP and
its talent will be a lasting one.
"We hope to resume it in the
future with the support of the com-
munity and our active group of phi-
lanthropists."
PLP came about from the vision
and support of its co-founders:
the late William M. Davidson of
Detroit, Michael Steinhardt/the
Steinhardt Foundation for Jewish
Life, New York; Eugene and Marcia
Applebaum, Detroit; Charles
and Lynn Schusterman Family
Foundation, Oklahoma; Robert
P. Aronson, CEO of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit,
and Rhoda M. Weisman, founding
executive director.
"I am enormously pleased and
