He was a proud World War II Army veteran (1941-44) and a for- mer member of Temple Emanu-El. Mr. Portnoy was a \\Tell-known jeweler in Royal Oak and the Metro Detroit area for 33 years. He opened his first jewelry store (Kent Jewelers) in 1941 in Royal Oak and eventu- ally had four stores. He also owned Laula's Jewelers in Highland Park. Mr. Portnoy was a avid golfer and played until his eyesight failed.
