HE BEST O F EvERy --

A World Of Flavors In Midtown

Detroit's Traffic Jam & Snug offers the traditional and the exotic.

p

OTPOURRI
One of Detroit's favorite
"quietly known" restaurants,
Traffic Jam & Snug, commemorates its
44th year on the corner of Canfield and
Second ... In the past, items like the
oddly named "Ants Climbing the Tree"
Vietnamese pasta were featured ... Lunch
and dinner attractions today include
diverse food selections like Madras
Meatloaf with leeks, apples and curry in
the mix, and a Hawaiian Island Salmon
topped with macadamia nuts, almonds
and gingered honey ... Also plenty of
American hamburgers, crab cakes, fish
and chips, premises-made meatloaf, etc.
... Traffic Jam & Snug is also recognized
for its museum-like collection of antiques
in a most interesting array ... But prob-
ably one of the best known features is its
in-house dairy, where Traffic Jam puts out
almost 2,000 gallons of ice cream yearly,
makes its own cheese and many breads.
REALIZING TODAY'S rough economy
and having a handle on things to do is
important in the restaurant game ... New
youthful owners of the former Giorgio's
Gourmet Diner, now called D'Pauli's on
Orchard Lake Road, north of 15 Mile, West
Bloomfield, Dina Kallis and Paul Demaj,
add another two more pluses in lowering
prices and adding more menu items ...
Complete dinners including whitefish,
$14.99 from $15.50; veal marsala, $15.99
from $17.95, etc. ... New choices like egg-
plant parmesan, chicken Siciliano, chicken
Caesar wrap and more ... Also, instead of
soup or salad and potato or vegetable with
meals, the word now is AND, not OR.
DANDY DINING DEAL ... 14-
ounce prime rib, includes soup or salad,

Trio, Boar's Head; the Strolling
vegetables, potato or rice,
Gypsies, Sussex House;
$12.99, every Saturday eve-

MAIL DEPT.... "I used to live in the
Hillel House at Michigan State University
years back from 1983 to 1984, before
it was torn down and rebuilt. It had a
small number of single room apartments
upstairs for students to rent. I was one of
the few and am trying to reach others that
lived there for a possible small reunion.
The MSU Hillel has no records either. I can
be reached at (248) 444-7474" ... Howard

AFTER WINNING two silver med-
als and one bronze in track at the
International Maccabiah Games in Israel,
localite Nicole Meisner almost had her
shirt ripped off her back, but couldn't
resist a cool athletic bag and finally gave
in by trading her shirt and one she had of
President Obama ... She also put wishes
in the Western Wall for her mom, Leslie
Magnas, and dad, Mort Meisner, and
called Mort from Israel to tell him how
much the salt hurt while floating in the
Dead Sea.
CONGRATS ... To Avery and Marilyn
