The

Chicago Sparty Party
On Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 p.m.-
midnight, young Jewish Spartan
alumni are invited to a Sparty Party
at the Tin Lizzie in Lincoln Park in
Chicago.
Hosted by Michigan State
University alumni Avi Davidoff,
Jessica, Coleman, David Mindell,
Jessica Silverman, Carl Seidman and
Abbey Askotzky, the party will fea-
ture dancing, an open bar and entry
into a raffle. The grand prize raffle
drawing is for a seven-night stay in a
luxury resort condo with a variety of
location options, including Honolulu;
Scottsdale, Ariz.; Palm Springs, Calif.;
London; and Israel.
Entry into the event is $30 with all
proceeds to support Jewish life on
campus at Michigan State University.
All young Jewish adults living in the
Chicago area are welcome.

HMD's Last Blast
Hillel of Metro Detroit will hold a
last blast event on Saturday, Aug. 22,
at 9:30 p.m. at the Beverly Prentis
Wagner Teen Center in the Jewish
Community Center, 6600 W. Maple
Road, West Bloomfield.
The event will feature a DJ, arcade
games, video games and more. The
event is free and will feature snacks, a
cash bar and fun. The event is being
held for young adults 18 and older.

Jewish-Indian Dialog
American Jewish Committee
Metropolitan Detroit Chapter will
host the summer discussion of the
Indian-Jewish dialog on Wednesday,
Aug. 19, 5:30 p.m. This group meets
explores political and social issues of
common interest.
Join the Indian-Jewish dialogue at
the Detroit Historical Museum for a
guided tour of "From Haven to Home:
Jewish Life in America." This touring
exhibition chronicles and brings to
life the American Jewish experience,
focusing on America as "Haven" the
Jewish immigrant's refuge from per-
secution in countries abroad — to
America as "Home," the creation of
permanent Jewish communities in
the U.S.

Beth Ahm BBQ Dinner
Congregation Beth Ahm, 5075 W
Maple Road, West Bloomfield, will
hold a song-filled outdoor Friday night
service at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, fol-
lowed by a barbecue dinner catered by
Beth Ahm's new Blatt-kosher caterer,
Kosher Too Catering.
The event is open to all.
Walk-ins are welcome for the ser-
vice, but prepaid reservations are a
must for the dinner. Cost is $18 for
those older than 13 and $12 for ages
6-12. Kids 5 and younger free.
After dinner, Rabbi Steven
Rubenstein will lead a short learn-
ing session for teens and adults; and
Amy Newman, Beth Ahm's director of
education, youth and family program-
ming, will facilitate a Shabbat program
for children.

Beth El Adult Ed Classes
Temple Beth El's adult education
classes in Bloomfield Township begin
Wednesday, Sept. 9.
• Lea Beurer, teaches two classes,
Advanced Hebrew, Wednesdays at
10:30 a.m., and Conversational Hebrew,
Wednesdays at 6 p.m. $50 Temple
members; $75 others.
• Rabbinic Associate Keren Alpert
leads a lunch and learn noon on
selected Thursdays and a lunar learn 7
p.m. on selected 'Wednesdays beginning
Sept. 23 and 24. Free.
• Rabbi Daniel Syme and Alpert lead
an Introduction to Judaism, a 10-week
seminar for prospective converts, non-
Jewish partners and Jews seeking a bet-
ter understanding of Judaism. Couples
will be charged only one fee. The class
meets 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays beginning
Oct. 7. $75 members; $95 others.
• Beginning Musicianship II will be
taught by Marla Aviva Bentley, cantorial
associate. There are 10 6 p.m. Tuesday
sessions beginning Oct, 6. Previous
enrollment is not a requirement. $50
members; $75 others.
• On Wednesdays, beginning Sept.
9 at 9:30 a.m., Lea Beurer will lead an
ongoing study of Torah text. No Hebrew
reading is required. Cost: $35 for mem-
bers; $50 for others.
