Supporters celebrate TARC's 40th anniversary with a Detroit Zoo safari.

They scampered, stalked. roamed and
frolicked around the grounds of the
Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. About 1,600
JARC supporters had the entire facil-
ity and all of the exhibits to themselves
June 4 for the Farman
- gton Hills-based
organizations -annual SpringElation
fundraiser. The group gathered on a
beautiful night to enjoy a catered picnic
dinner, music, dancing, scavenger hunts.
docent tours, face painting and more.
The evening also kicked of JARC's
40th anniversary celebration.
\\Te started with one group home
back in 1972, - said Rena Friedberg of
Hunting:Jon Woods, the oro-anizatioris
chief development officer. Now we
have 20 homes, many independent liv-
ing programs and our Merle and Shirley
Harris Children and Family Division,
which helps children with a variety of
disabilities. -
Eighty percent of the proceeds from
SpringElation will go to the children
and family division. Amon?: those tak-
ing part in the celebration was Cheryl
Guyer of Huntington Woods, a past
LARC president who has been involved
with the organization since its inception.
`T-ARC does what no one family can
do on its own, - she said. -It's a real com-
munity coming together to help children
and families with special needs. -
