The exact cause of narcolepsy is
not known, but it is believed that
genetics and the autoimmune sys-
tem play a role. Because the root
cause(s) of narcolepsy is/are not
well understood, it is very difficult
to recommend a nutritional or
lifestyle regime that can be
definitively characterized
as helpful.
The following suggestions
may be helpful:
• Maintain a regular
;/ /
- '
sleep-awake schedule;
• Take short naps of
roughly 20 minutes or
so during the day;
• Avoid nicotine and
alcohol, especially at
night;
• Get regular, appropriate exer-
cise;
• Moderate intake of caffeine may
help;
• Adopt a safe lifestyle that takes
into account your narcolepsy.
Above all else, make sure you
consult your physician.
