Disney In Israel

Jerusalem/JTA — The Disney
Channel will launch an Israeli
counterpart in September. Israeli
children will be able to watch
popular Disney shows dubbed
into Hebrew, as well as original
programming with Israeli actors,
according to reports. Disney shows
including Hannah Montana and
Wizards of Waverly Place now
appear on satellite television sta-
tions in Israel with Hebrew sub-
titles.
Disney has been a source of
contention in the Middle East in
recent years. In 2007, Hamas used
a character that looked like Mickey
Mouse to teach Palestinian children
to hate Israel.

MR. PRESIDENT -

THE PROBLEM ISN'T SETTLEMENTS,

IT'S ARAB REJECTION

We all support peace in the Middle East.
But pressuring Israel is not the right approach.

Plotting Terror

The obstacle to peace is not Israel. The settlements
are not the impediment. The issue is simple: the
Arab and Palestinian rejection of Israel's right to
exist, including through violence and terrorism, for
over 60 years. Israel's right to exist is undeniable
and is based on its right to self-determination in its
historic homeland.

The path to peace is clear. With recognition, Israel
has said again and again that everything is on the
table without preconditions.

Mr. President, it's time to stop pressuring our vital
friend and ally. It's now time to direct your attention
to the rejectionists who refuse to recognize Israel
and negotiate an end to the conflict.

With your leadership,
yes, we can have peace.

But the path begins with
the recognition of Israel.

Washington/JTA — Seven North
Carolina residents were charged with
plotting to commit terrorist attacks
around the world, including in Israel.
Federal prosecutors charged six
American citizens and one foreign
national in an indictment unsealed
On July 27.
The group's leader, Daniel Boyd, a
convert to Islam, reportedly trained
in terrorist camps in Pakistan and
Afghanistan. Three years ago he
began recruiting men, including
sons Zakariya and Dylan, to wage
jihad, or holy war.
The group had amassed a large
cache of weapons and held training
exercises in North Carolina, which
tipped off federal officials, the
Washington Post reported. Several
of the men traveled to Israel, the
Gaza Strip and Jordan in 2006 and
2007. In Israel in 2007, they report-
edly intended to engage in "violent
jihad," but did not do any fight-
ing. Some of the men also went to
Pakistan and Kosovo.
Boyd also is charged with lying to
customs and FBI agents about the
purpose of his visit to Israel. Besides
the Boyds, the others charged are
identified in court papers as Hysen
Sherifi, Anes Subasic, Mohammad
Omar My Hassan and Ziyad Yaghi.
They were charged with conspiracy
to provide material support to ter-
rorists and conspiracy to murder,
kidnap, maim and injure persons
abroad. Some also face weapons
charges.
The men face life in prison if con-
victed.
