Teaching Peace

Martial arts teacher brings Israelis
and Arabs children together.

amie Leno Zimron, a dual
American-Israeli citizen and
fifth-degree black belt in Aikido,
brings Israelis and Arabs
together "on and off the mat" through
the Japanese martial art of peace and a
program she started called the Middle
East Aikido Project (MAP). She will
appear in Metro Detroit for three pro-
grams in August, including a Shabbat
service at the Birmingham Temple in
Farmington Hills.
Zimron lives in southern California
and also is a Class A LPGA teaching
professional, sports psychologist and
body-mind fitness expert. She recently
won a gold medal in golf at the 18th
Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Striving to create a new generation
of peacemakers, Zimron travels regu-
larly to Israel to teach and partner with
Israelis and Palestinians who share her
vision for peace.
Zimron introduced Aikido at a
Seeds of Peace gathering in Ramallah.
Together with the Middle East-based
"Aikido Without Borders," she and MAP
support nonviolence through the devel-
opment of Palestinian Aikido practitio-
