Levin, 93, former Detroiter of Chestnut Hill, Mass., died July 14, 2009. He attended Central High School and Wayne State University. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Chicago. A first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was stationed at the Ballistics Research Lab at Fort Belvoir, Va. Postwar, he worked at the U.S. Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., where, in 1951, he and a team developed one of the nation's four earliest elec- tronic computers, the SEAC-Standard Electronic Automatic Computer. He later was employed at Raytheon, Honeywell Corp. in Boston.
