Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel. MARY GORDON, 96, of Laguna Hills, Calif., died June 24, 2009. She was originally from Pinsk, Poland, Gordon and arrived in the U.S. at the age of 9. She was most generous and was always taking care of many people, both rich and poor, many of who were immigrants, friends or relatives and refugees, including immigrants from Israel, Poland, Mexico and South America. She was a founding member and early president of Northwest Child Rescue Women and a mem- ber of Hadassah. Mrs. Gordon married her hus- band, Joseph, at the age of 21. Her mother then passed away, and Mrs. Gordon raised her younger sister and brother, ages 12 and 9, while raising her own children. At the same time, she had an active business career in real estate and also worked with her husband in the family retail clothing store in Royal Oak for more than 50 years. She enjoyed her life in Michigan and her later years in California. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her children, Fred (Marsha) Sheldon and Miles (Jan) Gordon; grand- children; great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Joseph Gordon and the last sur- vivor of her husband's family of nine children, nine spouses, her brothers and sister and their spouses.
