ROUNDUP
New County Treasurer
After defeating incumbent County
Treasurer Pat Dohany in the
November 2008 general
election, former State Rep.
Andy Meisner, D-Ferndale,
was publicly sworn in
as county treasurer on
July 1 at the Board of
Commissioners Auditorium
in Pontiac.
"Oakland County is
facing a foreclosure crisis
that is draining our property
values, while putting our
communities and property tax
revenues at risk," said Meisner.
"I am fully prepared to assume
office and do everything within
my power to protect our property
values, prevent foreclosures
and to get the county on sound
financial footing during such
unsettling times."
As county treasurer, Meisner
will act as the banker for the
county, receiving, disbursing
and investing county funds,
administering the property
tax system in partnership with
local treasurers, and serving on
the Retirement Board and its
investment subcommittee.
Meisner plans to pursue a
number of special projects,
including: the creation of a land
Jackson's Jewish Kids' Fate
Los Angeles/JTA Reports are con-
flicting over whether the Jewish mother
of two of the late Michael Jackson's chil-
dren will seek custody. Debbie Rowe is
the mother of Prince Michael I, 12, and
Paris Michael Katherine, 11. Through
their mother, they're considered Jewish.
According to London's Sunday Times,
sources close to Rowe said she will not
fight Katherine Jackson, the pop star's
mother, for custody of the children, but
would only seek more access to them.
But Iris Finsilver, Rowe's attorney,
told the Associated Press that she was
certain. that Rowe would seek custody.
Jackson married Rowe, his former
nurse, in 1996, following his divorce
from Lisa Marie Presley.
Rowe waived parental rights after she
and Jackson divorced in 1999. She later
contested the contract, among other
arguments expressing her fears that the
children were exposed to the teachings
of the Nation of Islam through their
nanny and some of Jackson's siblings.
A court ruled for her in 2006, but
custody was settled out of court.

"The people of Oakland
County need to know that
(incumbent treasurer) Pat Dohany
has been an absolute gentleman,
giving generously of his time and
attention to aid in a smooth and
successful transition, which is
great for me, but even better for
our taxpayers," said Meisner.
Meisner will honor 40 years of
service by Dohany and his father,
former Oakland County Treasurer
C. Hugh Dohany, with the official
commemoration of the new
"Dohany Conference Room" in the
Office of the Treasurer.
Meisner's leadership team
will include former Chief Deputy
County Clerk Jim VanLeuven as
chief deputy treasurer, former
Lansing Chief of Staff Lauren
Borson as administrative assistant
and Natalie Neph as investment
administrator, who currently holds
that position.
