anding together in a time of crisis is the focus of the Young Adult Division of
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit as its members, young profes-
sionals in their 20s and 30s, move into a new fundraising year. More than 100
people gathered at the Franklin home of Marcie and Robert
Orley June 2 for YAD's 71st annual meeting. David Kramer,
36, of Bloomfield Hills was installed as president along with 45
members of the 2009-2010 board of directors.
"Our task has never been more difficult," Kramer told the
crowd.
The husband and father is a vice president for Oswald
Companies, a Birmingham-based insurance brokerage firm. He
and his wife, Anessa, are raising two young sons, Sam, 6, and
Max, 4.
"Many people our age have little economic security and face
unprecedented stress and demands," Kramer continued. "`More
than ever, we hear young adults have no time or money for

Federation. It's our job to open their hearts and minds so they can help us sustain this
incredible community."
During the ceremony, liana Liss of Birmingham was also named president-elect and
former YAD president Jennifer Friedman of Huntington Woods received the Mark
Family Young Leadership Award.
Despite the tough economy, there was some good news. Outgoing president Jill Menuck
of Birmingham reported the under-40 crowd raised more than Si million for the second
consecutive year thanks to a record number of gifts, volunteers and participants.
"Ever since I joined YAD, my focus has always been about outreach," Menuck said.
"Today, we can say our members are more engaged. We are the future leaders of this
community, and it's critical that we understand the importance of growing our member-
ship and finding new ways to fund our community in the challenging days ahead:"
Spotted in the annual meeting crowd were: Gina Erpardo and Keith Lublin,
both of West Bloomfield; Daniel Morrison, Stacie Ostrofsky and Gayle Gold, all of
Huntington Woods; Brian Satovsky and Jennifer Kroll, both of Birmingham; Jay Hack
of Royal Oak; and Jessica and Steve Migliore of Commerce Township.
