MESSAGE FROM GAIL KATZ

As I come to the conclusion of my two year
term as President of Kadima, I would like to
reflect on the significant accomplishments of
this wonderful mental health agency. So many
outstanding projects and events have taken
place. We have instituted a new Volunteer

Services Committee to bring board and
community members to our client activities
so that our clients can feel truly a part of our
Jewish Community. A re-energized Professional
Services Committee has taken charge of
overseeing our client programs and evaluation
procedures. We have received a grant from the
Flinn Foundation to train our staff to deal with
mental illness and substance abuse. We have
also received a grant to enable us to upgrade
our technology and our computers in the office.

We are again preparing necessary changes to
comply with CARF accreditation renewal for
2009. The inspectors will be visiting Kadima
in June.

On October 23rd, we will hold our next
educational conference entitled "Children and
Adults Struggling with Emotional Disorders:
Overcoming Challenges and Fostering Hope."
Our new emphasis on our youth with emotional
disorders prompted the establishment of a
Children's Advisory Council to guide Kadima
in focusing on which services were greatly
needed for families and children struggling with
mental illness. A grant from the Jewish Fund has
enabled us to run a monthly support group for
parents with children with behavioral problems
and emotional disorders. We are working to
set up an endowment so that Kadima can offer
individual and group therapy, recreational
activities, advocacy, and respite care for
children with mental challenges.

Our Kadima vision continues to grow and
adapt to the needs of our community. Our
projects, our annual benefit, our Summer
Impressions event, and our Golf Outing, for
example, are initiatives for which we are
constantly fundraising in order to meet the

needs of our clients. The Friday Shabbat
Luncheons, the holiday parties, and the
welcoming warmth of the Kadima family convey

the passion of this phenomenal organization
of which I have been so proud to be President
for the last two years. As my term comes
to a close, I can only say that this is not an
ending for me, but a new beginning. Kadima
will fare wonderfully with my successor, Sandi
Tamaroff, and I will now have a bit more time
to continue my passion for furthering Kadima's
role in educating the public about mental
illness, fighting stigma and helping our families
and clients that we serve feel at home in our
community.

See all that is happening and make tributes on line at www.kadimacenter.org . You can also contact us at kadimaplus@msn.com .
