ing people, and you need to give credit to the teens who put this
together," said Larry Kohlenberg, a close friend of Rob Fischer.
"Music was one of Rob's greatest loves, after his children. He would
be incredibly proud:"
Kohlenberg is working with the Tarnases and guiding them
through the financial issues that go along with bringing two people
into their home. He also is helping to coordinate an effort with the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit to build on to the Tarnas
house to add bedrooms for Emily and Evan. The Tarnases have two
children of their own, Skyler, 14, and Dylan, 11.
Teens spent the weeks leading up to the fundraiser out in the
community selling "Banding Together" bracelets for $5 and spread-
ing the word. T-shirts were for sale at the event for $20.
Selling bracelets at the event was preteen Jodi Levin. "I am volun-
teering to raise money because I have parents, and I feel fortunate
and lucky," she said.
Watching the night unfold at Temple Israel was Al Fischer, Rob's
father. "I am absolutely overjoyed, overwhelmed, gratified and
proud to be Jewish," he said. "I am amazed at the whole thing, and
never dreamt that this would happen."
