Hillel, Hillel
In Ann Arbor, University of Michigan
Hillel has been housed in the Mandell
L. Berman Center since 1988. The
Berman Fellowship allows an oppor-
tunity for Hillel to invest in future
leaders through hands-on experience.
"The biggest challenge that Bill
Berman faced in his lifetime as a
full-time volunteer in the Jewish
community has arguably been his
inability to do everything at once,"
said Michael Brooks, U-M Hillel's
executive director.
At Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit, Berman was
honored May 27 with the 2009 Hillel
Day School Dream Maker Award.
"Bill Berman is a visionary who
always understood the vital impor-
tance of Jewish education in North
America;' said Steve Freedman,
Hillel's head of school. "Not only
has he been an influential voice,
but also a man of action. His work
has resulted in groundbreaking
educational initiatives both locally
and nationally.
"Hillel Day School has honored
Bill Berman with the Dream Maker
Award for his lifetime commit-
ment to the Jewish community and
Jewish education, in particular.
"Bill has become one of the
staunchest supporters of day school
education, fully recognizing the
lasting impact day school education
has on the continuity of the Jewish
people in North America."
