When Debi Farber cuts her nieces'
hair on Saturday, June 6, it will
be at an unusual site but for a
great cause. Five-year-old trip-
lets, Bailey, Kylie and Madison
Tarnopol of West Bloomfield, will
be having their locks snipped at
this year's West Bloomfield Relay
For Life as a donation to Wigs 4
Kids. Farber will be joined by other
stylists from Fringe Salon in West
Bloomfield at this year's Relay for
the Cuts For A Cure Campaign.
"We are very grateful that they
donate their time and talent to
help Wigs 4 Kids," said Maggie
Varney, the Sterling Heights orga-
nization's founder and CEO.
Wigs 4 Kids provides wigs — at
no cost — to children and teens
through age 17 who have hair loss.
The program's main focus is pro-
viding wigs to cancer patients, but
also includes young people with
hair loss caused by other factors.
"The girls wanted to get their
hair cut as a donation, and when
we heard Wigs 4 Kids would be at
the Relay, it was the perfect place
to do it," said their mom, Denise
Tarnopol. "They walked at last
year's Relay — on Team Hansons
along with their family — in honor
of my [late] uncle when he was
sick. This year, we all will walk in
his memory. The girls said they
also wanted to do more, and told
me they want 'to cut their hair to
give it to babies who are sick."
But Wigs 4 Kids donors don't
have to be kids. "Adults also may
donate as long as their hair is not
more than 10 percent gray and not
chemically treated," said Varney,
who will present information on
the organization during the Relay.
Hair that is donated must be at
least 10-inches long, clean and
thoroughly dry. Donors are asked
to bundle hair into a ponytail or
braid before having it cut.
Wigs 4 Kids is making its debut
at the Relay. Varney says dona-
tions help defray the cost of wigs.
"That, in turn, helps us to provide
wigs to more children in need,"
she said. "It also helps with aware-
ness of the program and social
acceptance by the children who
are donating their hair."
Haircuts will take place 3-6 p.m.
Saturday, June 6. For more on

Kids and parents aren't always
in sync, but Allie Rogovein and
her dad, David, found something
important to focus on together.
"Allie and Chrissie Cox, both
16 and of West Bloomfield, are
captains of the elistrong team in
honor of their Bloomfield Hills
Andover High classmate Emily
Lisner, 16, who has Hodgkin's dis-
ease," said Allie's dad.
So Rogovein, who owns Global
Wireless Communications in West
Bloomfield, and Marty Rosen,
the store's general manager,
decided to make an ongoing dona-
tion. They will donate $5 for
every Bluetooth headset sold
until closing on Friday, June 5.
"Even through these brutal eco-
nomic times, I have felt donating
something to this organization
[American Cancer Society] is quite
rewarding whether we can afford it
or not. I guess it's all about priori-
ties. I'm helping the team in any
way I can."
Rogovein is a great admirer
of Lisner. "Emily is running for
student council president for next
year," he said. "She has continued
her 10th-grade studies during
the chemo, at home mostly, with
Andover's and her friends' help."
In addition, he said the fund-
raising efforts "have been a great
bonding experience with my
daughter."
