Special Report RADICAL ISLA JNMASKED Muslim Reform Anti-Islamist American Muslim says Muslims must stem the tide of radical Islam. Stories by Robert Sklar Editor I slamic fundamentalism and home- grown terror threaten the American way of life and our national security Assuring Western security, amid the fanaticism of radical Islam and its intoler- ance of basic human rights and Western liberties, hinges on the ideological defeat of political Islam. While most advocates of political Islam are non-violent, they ultimately share with radical Islamists a desire to form Islamic states. Therein rests the need for a sea change within the Muslim community, among radicals and moderates alike. The West will be chasing splinter groups of radical Islamists for the next century unless pietistic Muslims, who believe in Western nation states and their secular system of law over the "Islamic state," win the internal debate among Muslims. America must wake up! At stake is the primacy of our Constitution and gov- ernance. Expanding pockets of Europe already are Islamicized. That's the core message delivered to the Detroit Jewish community by a devout American Muslim physician and former U.S. Navy lieutenant commander who has devoted much of his life to exposing the danger of radical Islam in America. Dr. Zuhdi Jasser is a self-described anti- Islamist Muslim. He believes it is essen- tial for devotional Muslims to lead the ideological war against radical Islam by separating the spiritual from the politi- cal within Islam. That is the gateway to ending terror. Islamism is a political and militant movement, which is different than the faith of Islam, a religion. "It is very important for every American to help facilitate this debate and, addition- ally help those Muslims who are ready to lead this debate against the advocates of political Islam:' Jasser, president of the Phoenix-based American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD), said in an exclu- sive interview with the Detroit Jewish News on May 11. AIFD, founded in 2003, serves to edu- cate and empower Americans about the perils of Islamism. It promotes the U.S. Constitution and seeks to engage Muslims "All _faith groups in America need to become part of facilitat- ing a project to counter the influ- ence and ideologies of the Muslim Brotherhood and its splinter groups around the world if we are to have a sustainable security against radi- cal Islam." - Dr, Zuhdi Jasser in recapturing a spiritual, pluralistic and peaceful Islam. New Documentary Dr. Jasser shared his views with the IN the day before the Michigan premiere of the Clarion Fund's new documentary film, The Third Jihad-Radical Islam's Vision for America, at Temple Israel in `-Vest Bloomfield. Jasser is the narrator and human energy cell behind the film, the byproduct of three years of research and development. Jasser's investigations gave rise to the riveting, timely expose of radical Islam in America and the risks from cultural jihad's push into our society's educational, legal, political and financial systems. The radical Islarnist's intent is to use our democratic system to transform the American way of life from within to a society governed by Sharia law (Islamic religious law rooted in the 15th and 16th centuries). Radical Islam already pulsates in such diverse places as Miami, Toronto, London, Glasgow, Cairo, Bali, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. It's not a coincidence that ter- rorists have taken up residence in those places. A physician in private practice special- izing in internal medicine and nuclear cardiology, Jasser is former physician to the U.S. Congress. The Wisconsin native is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee (1988) and the Medical College of Wisconsin (1992). He is arguably the leading Muslim proponent of impressing upon our poli- cymakers the importance of halting the third jihad's penetration into America. Jasser strives to warn against infiltration of Sharia law, especially into our banking and finance system. He also addresses domestic terrorism. He has spoken at hundreds of events hosted by campuses, places of worship and the government. He comments regularly on the cable news channels about Islam. Islamism and coun- terterrorism. Fighting Back To challenge fellow Muslims to initiate a synergy between our constitutional democracy and a pluralistic Islam, cer- tainly no easy task, Dr. Jasser has put his life and that of his family at risk. He remains committed to Islam, but a Muslim on page Al2 H AD SLAM'S VISION FOR AMERICA Mav 2 8 • 7 009 All
