The Jewish War Veterans of the USA
and Ladies Auxiliary will be joined
by the Jewish Veterans of the Royal
Canadian Legion and Russia for an
International Memorial Day Service
at Machpelah Cemetery, 21701
Woodward, Ferndale. The service is
at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 24.
The Canadians will be directed
by Izzy Sigal and the Russians
by Anatoly Granovsky with the
JWV organization headed by State
Commander Jerry Order and Ladies
Auxiliary President Myra Gross.
JWV chaplain, Rabbi Herbert
Yoskowitz of Adat Shalom Synagogue
in Farmington Hills will lead the
service. Taps will be sounded by
Ben Duchan and band members of
Ferndale High School.
A second ceremony will be held at
Hebrew Memorial Cemetery, Gratiot
at 14 Mile Road, Clinton Township, at
12:30 p.m.
All veterans and families, regard-
less of religion, are invited to attend
to honor the memory of our fallen
who have helped secure our free-
doms.
In the event of rain, the programs
will be held inside.

Yad Ezra Volunteers
To honor the dedication and hard
work of more than 125 regular Yad
Ezra volunteers and board members,
the Berkley-based organization hosts
a Volunteer/Board Appreciation
Dinner every year.
This year, the dinner will be
chaired by Judy Kepes and Nicole
Lester and is scheduled to take
place at Adat Shalom Synagogue in
Farmington Hills on Wednesday. June
10. The event will include a buffet
dinner and the presentation of the
Diane and Emery Klein Volunteer of
the Year Award (begun in 2001) to
an honoree who has gone above and
beyond the call of duty.
Yad Ezra is able to accomplish
its mission of feeding needy Jewish
families in the Metro Detroit com-
munity because of the dedication
and commitment of its volunteers.
Since December 2007, the number
of client families coming to Yad Ezra
has increased by 35 percent.
The volunteers are Yad Ezra's
(unpaid) partners whose efforts save
the agency significant funds that are
used to buy food for client families.
For information about volunteer-
ing at Yad Ezra, call (248) 548-FOOD
or e-mail Elaine@yadezra.org .
