Observing their celebrations at JPI on Saturday, May 9, will be Alana Guth of Waterford, Shannon Mann of Oak Park, Adam Motley of Pontiac, Natalie Schaefer of Southfield and Matthew Raisky of Oak Park. On May 16, Emily Barber of Farmington Hills, Mina Cohen of Farmington Hills, Edward Dworkin of Waterford, Mikayla Kazdan of Southfield and Lindsey Lampear of Keego Harbor will become b'nai mitzvah. The students will be joined by their parents during the service. Both ser- vices will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit in West Bloomfield. A kiddush will follow the service. Each student has completed more than 32 hours of community service, written a research paper deal- ing with a Jewish topic of his own choosing, read literature focusing on young adults forced to make adult decisions and had a philosophical study of the Torah and Talmud. available at: TRADITION! He is the son of Susan and Gary August and brother of Matthew. Mitchell is the grand- son of Sally and Mel Eder, Irving August, George and Terry Lieberman. Mitchell is in the seventh grade at the Birmingham Covington School in Bloomfield Township. For his mitz- vah project, he participated in the Links program and assisted his Links friends in PE classes. Taryn Lynne Berkal (Tira Leah), together with her parents, Leslye and Steve Berkal, and her sister Meg, will celebrate her bat mitzvah on her birthday, Saturday, May 9, Berkal at Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy. He is the son of Julianne and Howard Berlin Berlin, brother of Aaron and grandson of Judy and Sam Weiner, Harriet Berlin and the late Irving Berlin. Max is a student at the Roeper School in Birmingham. One of his favorite mitzvah projects was playing piano for residents of Prentis Jewish Apartments in Oak Park.
