Solomon and Karen McKeachie
have been involved in health
and fitness activities for years.
McKeachie is a five-time gold medal-

Solomon has been competing in tri-
athlons, duathlons and running races

They will share their common inter-
est and create EST Events, an organiza-
tion that promotes fit and healthy life-

designed for all levels of athletes. There
is a mini sprint designed for those try-
ing their first triathlon as well as a full
sprint which is designed for all levels of

The second event, Survival of

on Aug. 16. It is a 10-leg adventure start-
ing and finishing at Portage Lake Park.
Participants will run, bike and swim
their way over a 41.4-mile course; they
must devise a way to carry their run-
ning shoes during the swim legs.
Training groups such as Women In
Motion (www.womeninmotion.us ) are
training women to complete their first
triathlon.

emory tips for everyday liv-
ing will be shared in Center
Court at Orchard Mall on
Wednesday, May 13.
Like muscular fitness, memory can
be strengthened and sharpened when
properly nurtured.
This program, in partnership with
Royal Oak-based Beaumont Hospital,
brings health and wellness guidance
to the West Bloomfield mall, located at
Orchard Lake and Maple roads.
The program will focus on the ben-
efits of brain exercises toward boosting
memory and sharpening the mind.
Wednesday Wellness takes place
monthly in the mall's center court and
is free of charge.
The May 13 program will begin at
12:30 p.m. with participants receiv-
ing a light dessert and gift bags. Lisa
Mammoser and Erica Barker-Erlewein,
ASHA certified speech-language pathol-

ogists from Beaumont's Center for Adult
Communication Disorders, will discuss
factors that affect memory and the
value of practicing memory strategies.
In an effort to add more value for
Orchard Mall shoppers, there will be a
grand opening on Saturday, May 30, to
celebrate five new businesses opening in
the first half of this year.
Touted as "Your Dreams Come True
at Orchard Mall," that event will feature
craft activities, refreshments and live
entertainment as well as informational
handouts about Maria's Bridal Couture,
Nancy's Linens, Frameable Faces
Photography, La Fata Cabinets and Top
Driver, the newest businesses to set up
shop in the mall.
On that day as well, Guys N Gals will
host its 20th annual blue jean trade-in
to benefit the homeless. All donations
(housewares, clothing and other items)
are welcome. I=
