They used their uplifting voices to usher in spring. More than a dozen can-
tors from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Chicago, Pennsylvania and
even Canada came together March 24 at Congregation B'nai Moshe in
West Bloomfield for the Cantors Assembly gala concert. About 250 people
gathered for dinner and an evening of song featuring musical numbers
with a spring theme. "Especially in these tough economic times, our role is
to provide a spiritual outlet but also to entertain," said Cantor Earl Berris
of Farmington Hills. Berris has been B'nai Moshe's cantor for the past 12
years. He also serves as president of the Great Lakes & Rivers Region of the
Cantors Assembly. "There's always a little competition," he said. "But, when
our cantorial colleagues come together, we get along beautifully."
