Cali 248.351.5107 for more information A32 May 7 2009 etro Detroiters will have an exclusive opportunity to attend the Michigan premiere of the documentary Third Jihad Tuesday, May 12, and meet the narrator and guid- ing force behind the film. Former U.S. Navy lieutenant com- mander Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, a self- described "anti-Islamist Muslim': will be guest speaker and moderator at the May 12 screening of Third Jihad at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. The founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy and former phy- sician to the U.S. Congress, Dr. Jasser is a devout Muslim who has dedicated himself to warn Western societies about the threats of political Islam. He is fea- tured on CNN and other media outlets. The newly released documentary is a gripping expose of radical Islam in America and the emerging risks from cultural jihad's insidious pen- etration of our society's educational, legal, political and financial systems. The film is largely inspired by the FBI discovery of a disturbing Muslim Brotherhood memorandum for opera- tions in America detailing methods by which radical Islamists should exploit our open democracy to undermine and subvert it from within. Among the objectives outlined in the Brotherhood manifesto and one that is far advanced in implementation is the establishment of "moderate" groups, mosques and Islamic centers strategi- cally positioned to weaken our culture and promote the acceptance of Sharia, or Islamic religious law. The film is premised on the assumption that most people do not recognize or have a sufficient under- standing of radical Islam. According to its producers: "Most people are oblivious to what is really going on in the United States and around the world. Violence due to radical Islam is rising every year. We do not really believe there's a need to defend the core values of our civilization. We take for granted that our civilization is safe. The radicals know better." The documentary, which features interviews with such widely respected experts on Islam as Bernard Lewis, raises awareness about radical Islam's harsh intolerance of basic human rights and western freedoms. Third Jihad drives home the dangers of Sharia by spotlighting shocking foot- age from around the Islamic world capturing the persecution, violence and murder of women, children, homosexuals, Christians and other religious minorities. The documentary is careful to dis- tinguish between radical Islam and Muslims worldwide. Assert the film's producers: "We can speak up, while still maintaining respect for different cultures. Our problem is that we are so worried about preserving multicul- turalism that we have neglected basic ethical standards!' Ultimately, the film concludes that the spread of Islamic fundamentalism and homegrown terrorism is a challenge to our way of life and national security that can no longer be ignored. Following the film, Dr. Jasser will field questions and share his perspectives as to how citizens can work effectively to repel the perils of radical Islam in America. 7_ The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the community at no charge. Advance reg- istration is required; call Michelle Lichtman at Temple Israel at (248) 661-5700 or send her an e-mail message at michelle® temple-israel.org. Answering Israel's Critics The Charge Most Michigan supporters of Israel say,"I live 7,000 miles away from Israel and am only one person. Israel celebrated its 61st birthday last week; what can I alone possibly do to ensure that it celebrates its 62nd?" The Answer Besides supporting the Jewish Federation's Annual Campaign and other Israel-focused charities, you can write letters of complaint or compliment to the news media; tell your congressmen to support Israel; and speak to your neighbors, co-workers and friends about Israel.
