their stories of strength and courage will never die.
I know I will remember my grandparents' story and teach it to my children
and grandchildren. That way, in the future, if anyone ever confronts me with the
statement, "the Holocaust never happened," I can say I saw the tattooed num-
ber on my grandfather's left aim, 4907. I heard how most of his family was mur-
dered by the Nazis. I know, without a sliver of doubt, the Holocaust occurred.
This year, on Yom HaShoah, the candles are once again lit in memory. It is
our task, as the third generation, to hold true to the phrase, "Never again." We
must teach our children what happened so they can learn to
practice understanding and stand up against hate and intoler-
ance.
The legacy of the survivors will serve as an ever-enduring mes-
sage to the world and to those who will never be forgotten.

Sam Gringlas, 15, is a freshman at North Farmington High School.
