Spirituadi Synagogues from page A31 YIOP Hosts Israel Rabbi Rabbi Yona Metzger, shlita, chief Ashkenazi rabbi of Israel, will pay a visit to Michigan in May, serving as guest speaker at the annual dinner of Young Israel of Oak Park. The event, which is open to the entire community, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the synagogue, 15140 W. 10 Mile. Benefactors and patrons or those at the $500-and-up level are invited to attend a VIP reception with Rabbi Metzger at 5:30 p.m. The annual dinner on May 17 includes recognition of Jill and Aaron Kleid, recipients of the Young Israel of Oak Park Young Leadership Award, and a formal welcome to Mrs. Devora and Rabbi Michael Cohen, who joined the synagogue as its spiritual leader in August 2008. Yom HaShoah Marked Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Oakland County will host a Yom HaShoah commemoration and presentation by author Joshua Rubenstein 7 p.m. on Tuesday April 21, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek West Bloomfield B'nai Israel Center. Rubenstein was Joshua approached by Rubenstein the U.S. Holocaust Museum and Indiana University Press to edit The Unknown Black Book. Made up of testimonies from Jewish survivors of German massacres on Soviet lands, the book was originally assembled in Moscow by Russian and Israeli scholars and published in 1993. Rubenstein is northeast director of Amnesty International USA and an associate at Harvard's Davis Center for Eurasian and Russian Studies. He has been professionally involved with human rights and international affairs for 30 years as an activist, scholar and journalist.
