JACK STONE, 87, of West Bloomfield,
died March 27, 2009.
He immigrated from Lublin, Poland,
in 1928. He graduated from Cass
Tech in Detroit, and with a bachelor
of electrical engineering degree from
Lawrence Technological University in
1943. Served in World War II as engi-
neer on the Manhattan Project at Los
Alamos.
Mr. Stone was an electrical engineer
at Ford Motor Company for 36 years
in research and development of manu-
facturing processes. He received an
award from the Roon Paint Society for
an invention. He was actively involved
in the American Technion Society as a
founder and board member and was
also a member of many Jewish and
community charities and organiza-
tions. He was a member of Temple Kol
Ami and the Torah Study Group.
Mr. Stone is survived by his lov-
ing wife, Edith; brother and sister-
in-law, Dr. Sidney and Betty Stone
of Farmington Hills; sister, Marcia
Parven of Bloomfield Hills; broth-
ers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marvin
and Donna Berman, Gerald and Vered
Berman; loving nieces and nephews,
grandnieces and grandnephews;
devoted caregiver, Jamal Muhammad.
He was the dear brother-in-law of
the late Howard Parven.
Contributions may be made
to American Technion Society,

Farmington Hills, MI 48334; American
Jewish Committee, 6735 Telegraph
Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301; or
to a charity of one's choice. Interment
at Clover Hill Park Cemetery in
Birmingham. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

ALAN WALT, 80,
of West Bloomfield,
died March 21, 2009,
in Sarasota, Fla.
For the past 35
years he enjoyed a
highly successful
career as a labor
Walt
arbitrator, deciding
more than 2,000
disputes involving
a wide range of union, public and
private-sector organizations. Many
of these decisions are referenced in
leading arbitration journals. An active
member of the National Academy of
Arbitrators, he served on several com-
mittees and was recognized by his
peers for his significant contributions
to the profession.

Before becoming an arbitrator, Mr.
Walt practiced law in the firm bearing
his own name, first in Detroit and then
in Southfield. Previously, he partnered
with the late Michigan Circuit Court
Judge Thomas J. Brennan and prior to
that was city attorney of Livonia and
was an assistant prosecutor for Wayne
County. He also served as a member
of the Michigan State Unemployment
Appeals Board.
Mr. Walt earned a bachelor of arts
and juris doctor degrees from Wayne
State University and was member of
the Michigan Bar Association. After
earning his degrees, he enlisted in the
United States Army and was commis-
sioned as a first lieutenant. He contin-
ued in the U.S. Army Reserves where
ultimately he was promoted to the
rank of major.
Mr. Walt was a generous and devoted
husband, father, father-in-law and friend,
a patron of the arts and an individual
who was committed to and maintained
the highest standards of personal and
professional integrity. He was deeply
loved and will be terribly missed.
He is survived by wife, Arlene;
daughter, Adrienne and her husband, Ira
Mintz; son, Robert and his wife, Deborah.
He was the father of the late Julie.

PHILIP ZELTZER, 88, of Delray
Beach, Fla., formerly of West
Bloomfield, died March 29, 2009.
He was a veteran of the Army Air
Corps and served in World War II.
He was a kosher butcher and, after
retirement, worked for Federated
Department Stores in Florida
until moving to Hechtman Jewish
Apartments in West Bloomfield.
Mr. Zeltzer is survived by his daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Helene and Ken
Brower of Delray Beach, Cheryl and
Craig Gastwirth of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Melissa Brower, Lauren
(Eric) Bachenheimer, Stacy (Jason)
Trager, Andrew Gastwirth; great-
grandchildren, Samantha and Jason
Bachenheimer.
He was the devoted husband of the
late Shirley Zeltzer.
Interment was in Delray Beach.
