Where Are You Now?

y

ou remember the famous bibli-
cal devotion of Ruth as she said,
"Whither thou goest, I shall go!"
A Dickens hero
being led to the
guillotine said,
"Tis a far, far better
place I go to ..."
(Tale of Two Cities).
Today's drivers
depend heavily on
GPS systems to help
them keep a sense
of place.
Now, consider
the many expres-
sions our language

has to indicate that we are in trouble or
in need of bettering a situation that are
all tied in with directions of some sort.
Have you ever been in such dire straits
that you thought you were up the creek
without a paddle? If you find yourself
without sufficient information, you may
decide that you are up in the air.
Should you then decide to take action
anyway, you may end up out on a limb;
a precarious position at best. Should this
then jeopardize you at work, you may dis-
cover yourself on the outside looking in.
When you find that you have committed
yourself to do too much, you may feel you
are in over your head. This could lead
to some bad choices, and you could find

Argentinean Remembrance

Argentina has decided to build a national monument
in Buenos Aires to commemorate the victims of the
Holocaust. The Argentine National Secretariat of Culture
announced a public contest open to sculptors and other
artists to create the display.
A seven-member jury will select the winner. Jurists
include a member of the Secretariat of Culture, repre-
sentatives of the Ministry of Education, the School of
Architecture of the University of Buenos Aires, and the
embassies of Israel and Germany in Buenos Aires.
The prize is a cash award and a Diploma of Honor.
"B'nai B'rith International, with a longstanding strong
presence in Latin America, welcomes this effort in the
home of the largest Jewish population in the region:' said
BBI President Moishe Smith.

— Robert Sklar, editor

Quotabks

"Jewish voters are one segment of an increasingly
diverse electorate that we must do a better job of
attracting. Many older Jews remain unwilling to
consider voting for Republicans because many
years ago they or their parents may not have felt
welcome in the party. This is no longer the case.
Jews and Americans of every extraction can find
under the GOP umbrella a party very willing to
include them."
- U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., In a personality profile in

the March/April issue of Moment magazine.

yourself over a barrel, especially if you
take something under the counter; you
might then end up in the red. This may
not rectify itself until you are over the hill.
(The latter, of course, is to be preferred to
having one foot in the grave).
We can all appreciate what it means
to be at the top of our game. But when
things do not work out quite right, we
may be down on our luck, in too deep
or just at sea. A good approach is often
to remain down-to-earth and things will
right themselves. (I just love a Pollyanna
attitude; don't you?)
Well, just be sure to keep your sunny
side up, and your life is sure to be over
the top. L.

Kitchen Tips

• When boiling water, turn down the burner as low as possible
to maintain the boil. Water will not get hotter than its boil-
ing point. Too much heat creates excess steam and wastes
energy.
• When boiling anything on the stove, use the least amount
of water possible. Also use a lid. The water will come to a boil
faster and will not escape the pan.
• A pressure cooker uses much less energy than a conven-
tional pan. Often the pressure cooker will do the job in half
the time.
• Cook several dishes in your oven at one time, or use the
oven again immediately while it is still hot.
• Allow frozen food to thaw in the refrigerator or at room tem-
perature. Cooking frozen food wastes energy.
• Turn off heat from a stove or appliance early. Use the stored
heat to finish a meal.

Jewish Thought On The Environment
"And it shall come to pass, when I bring clouds over the
earth, and the bow is seen in the cloud."
