Nearly three decades in the 'hood for Boneyard and Brass Pointe.

p

OTPOURRI
Having two good neighbor-
hood restaurants such as them,
serving the same food in almost the same
area for almost the same lengths of time
is a rarity.
Boneyard, Orchard Lake Road south
of 14 Mile, Farmington Hills, owned
by Danny and Gail Djordjevski and
son Gordon Djordjevski ... and Brass
Pointe, Orchard Lake Road north of 10
Mile, Farmington Hills, owned by Bob
Mihajlovski and Danny Nestorovich, are
both widely acclaimed for their broasted
and barbecued chickens, barbecued ribs
and various specialty items ... Boneyard,
also with its barbecued lamb ribs ... Brass
Pointe with its Mexican dishes, too ...
Each enjoys the most communal promi-
nence for their chicken and ribs selections,
along with preparation features like sea-
food and fresh fish ... Boneyard celebrates
its 30 anniversary in October ... and
Brass Pointe fetes No. 28 in December.
HUGE DINING FEAT by owner Enrico
Rosselli is obtaining the services of
new executive chef at his La Dolce Vita,
Woodward, three blocks north of 6 Mile,
Detroit ... Former II Posto Ristorante
executive chef, Matteo Guiffrida, was a big
White House favorite of President Ronald
and Nancy Reagan and no doubt brings
some of his great creative dishes to La
Dolce Vita ... He also sings, Enrico.
SPAGHETTI & MEATBALLS with soup
or salad daily, 4 p.m. to close, is $9.95 at
Giorgio's of West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake
Road ... But on Tuesdays, same time, all-
you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs with
soup or salad is just a dollar more at $10.95.
LET'S CLEAR up a misconception ...
885 Deli, 15 Mile and Farmington Road,

West Bloomfield, is not the
same 855 Deli that closed on
Northwestern Hwy. ... Both
used parts of their phone
number, that's all.
QUESTION & ANSWER
DEPT.... "I keep hearing
about how great a restaurant
Darbys was. Was it a chain?
How many were there?" ...
Lorraine Tamisch.
(Only one, Lorraine, located
on 7 Mile, west of Wyoming,
Detroit, before being destroyed by fire in
1967 ... Owner Sam Boesky retained the
name after the fire and when he and step-
son Bernie Kerner bought Stanley Steamer
in Oak Park, they called it Darbys Stanley
Steamer ... A dining spot in Utica tried
to get by with calling it Darby's, putting
an apostrophe in the name, but none of
the original Darbys menu items was ever
featured.)
NEXT PARTY in the successful series
by Yossi Benyamin is set for Saturday, May
2, 9 p.m., for folks 21 years and older ...
It'll be in honor of Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel's
61st birthday, at Yossi's in Robin's Nest,
Orchard Lake Road, north of 14 Mile, West
Bloomfield ... Skewered lamb, drinks,
dancing, karaoke, etc. $27 per person in
advance ... For more info, call his party
coordinator, Ilanit Rubin, (248) 496-7723.
MAIL DEPT.... "When we came back
from Florida, my wife, Sally, and I went
to Costco for a kosher hot dog. It didn't
taste the same and we wondered why.
We have found out that it isn't the same
anymore and will not go back. Why was it
changed?" ... Heiman Gruschov.
(While you were in Florida, Helman,
Sara Lee, the producer of Sinai Kosher

went out of the kosher products
business, and Costco is now
serving its own non-kosher
brand. And since Sara Lee owns
Best Kosher, too, Best is not
being sold at Sam's Club, which
now also has a non-kosher hot
dog.)
"WHAT WONDERFUL
savings on my dry cleaning
and such a clean fresh smell
now," says Kasha Matusinski,
a happier hostess at Bacco
Ristorante, Northwestern Hwy., Southfield,
with its much-accepted, smoke-free policy
in both the bar and dining room areas.
THANK YOU DEPT. ... To Larry
Goulson, in the Seafood and Meat
Department at Busch's Market, 14 Mile
and Farmington Road, West Bloomfield,
for the 1939 menu of Heed's Chop House
"Under Management of Lester Gruber" ...
Les later bought the place and renamed it
London Chop House.
GOOD EMPLOYEE DEPT. ... Patricia
"Patti" Cornelius, 14-year veteran regis-
tered vascular technologist for Dr. Owen
Brown, vascular surgeon in Bingham
Farms ... Her warm personality is so very
important to go with extreme know-how
efficiency for good patient relationship
... Before Dr. Brown, Patti was 11 years at
Beaumont and Sinai hospitals.
ADD ANOTHER PERFORMANCE
plume to the many-feathered stage acting
cap of Mitchell Master, director of visual
and performing arts at the Frankel Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan Detroit... The
41-year-old son of Carole Master, manager
at Coby's Judaica in the Jewish Community
Center, West Bloomfield, will play the star
character part of Max Bialystock in The

Producers at St. Dunstan's outdoor Greek
theater at Cranbrook, Bloomfield Hills
... That's the role Nathan Lane portrayed
on Broadway in the film version ... Zero
Mostel played that role in Mel Brook's
original 1968 movie ... Mitch will do his
thing May 29 and 30, and June 4-6, 11-13,
dedicating the performances to his late
dad, Eli Master.
THEY'RE ALMOST like takeoffs on
some of the machines at Marvelous
Marvin's Mechanical Museum in
Farmington Hills ... The new exercise
mechanisms at Franklin Athletic Club,
Northwestern Hwy., Southfield ... Marvin
Yagoda's contraptions have folks behind
the wheel of simulated fast-moving
autos ... The ones at Franklin owned by
Seymour, Dolores and son Rick Brode
have guys and gals pedaling on station-
ary bicycles in front of projector screens
... Plenty of exercise and weight loss at
Franklin to go with much fun.
DURING TRYING economic times,
public relations and advertising are among
the most important assets a restaurant can
have ... Keeping a restaurant name in front
of the public is like breathing while holding
your head above water ... Better times will
come again, and when they do, customers
will return to restaurants they continually
hear about that have survived the waves ...
Public relations and advertising are very
significant tools in this regard.
CONGRATS ... To Don Cohen on his
50th birthday ... To Florence Abel on her
birthday ... To Esther Ressler on her 90th
birthday ... To Donna Moore on her
birthday. -1
