six private triage rooms provide
walled privacy and an attached bath-
room. With board-certified specialists
in obstetrics and gynecology in the unit
24/7, and an in-house anesthesiolo-
gist, there is no waiting for a doctor
to arrive. Patients' electronic medical
records transfer to Labor & Delivery, so
records are readily available.
Labor, delivery, recovery and postpar-
tum care (LDRP) all take place in one
room. Mothers check in to their private
rooms, where they give birth and remain
until discharge. There are 15 LDRP
rooms (two are barrier-free) and two
C-Section rooms in the unit. Most bath-
rooms have optional hydrotherapy tubs
for more comfortable labor.
Dad, a relative or a friend can stay
overnight in the same room as mother
and baby, so families can begin bond-

"We're looking out for every mother's
well-being," says Brent Davidson,
M.D., service chief of Women's Health
Services at Henry Ford West Bloomfield
Hospital. "From our physicians' col-
laborative practice with certified nurse
midwives for birthing options, to
lactation consultant services that sup-
port breastfeeding, we provide family-
focused care."
Special touches include gowns for
laboring mothers made of a soft t-shirt
material, closed in the back, with nurs-
ing slits in the front.
"Henry Ford West Bloomfield
Hospital is very sensitive to this diverse
community," adds Dr. Davidson. "We
can provide culturally appropriate food
around the clock, including kosher, and
translators are available by phone in
minutes." 7.
